Tampa City Council Approves $112,500 Medical Malpractice Settlement

In many cases, medical negligence can be a traumatizing experience. Take for example a Tampa woman who was given a paralyzing muscle relaxer instead of a painkiller following a car accident.

After a collision with another vehicle, the 68-year-old woman was evaluated by Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics and accidently given succinylochine, a very powerful muscle relaxer normally given to patients undergoing surgery. Although emergency responders had meant to give the woman fentanyl, a powerful painkiller, the mistake was uncorrectable.

Succinylochine can be a terrifying experience, as people under its effects cannot move, talk, or breathe. The woman had no means of communicating that she needed help and was in pain.

In an attempt to correct their mistake and save the woman, emergency responders quickly utilized a breathing mask and took her to the hospital.

According to a lawsuit filed against the paramedics, the woman now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Two weeks ago, the Tampa City Council approved $112,500 to settle the case.

How Can Medical Negligence Cause Pain And Suffering?

Medication errors and medical negligence can harm patients psychologically, leaving behind post-traumatic stress disorder and other issues with anxiety. Having a competent medical malpractice attorney can help injured patients account for all damages, psychological and physical.

Recovering from psychological trauma involves a period of rehabilitation, causing further expenses for injured patients.
